Bentonite Plug – About Our Bentonite Chips
Our bentonite chips come in a 3/8-inch size, making them more ideally suited to certain uses. Such situations include the sealing of well cases and boreholes, plugging up flow holes, decommissioning wells, installation of grounding rods, preparation of geothermal wells, and other similar uses.
These chips are very useful because they transform into a gel-like mass once they meet water. There is no need to mix the sodium bentonite beforehand for it to be usable. Instead, the Bentonite Plug can simply be poured into the target hole while it is completely dry. Once wet, the resulting semi solid mass creates an impermeable barrier between the water on one side and the porous soil on the other. Thanks to this barrier, it becomes possible to stop and control the seepage and water crossing over.
Uses of Bentonite Chips
Bentonite chips are regularly used in various industrial and similar scenarios. For example, wells benefit greatly from the use bentonite chips. On the one hand, the bentonite is useful to make sure that functioning wells do not suffer from the loss of precious water due to seepage. On the other hand, when the well is ready to be decommissioned, the chips can be used to seal the well opening from the aquifer underneath it. This helps to ensure that the water in the aquifer will not end up contaminated by chemicals or other substances leaking in from above.
Bentonite chips are also useful when grounding rods are implanted into the soil. As the rods are driven into the ground, there is a need to fill in the space surrounding these. Bentonite chips do a good job of plugging in these spaces so the grounding rods are firmly rooted into the soil.
